Our Story
Background
SVERDAC is a registered section 8 company (NGO) under the ministry of corporate affairs of India, and a registered group of waste pickers and scrap merchants and other type of recyclers based in various cities in Kerala.
We have an interdisciplinary team whose skillset range from operations management, geospatial research, environmental research, stakeholder engagement, capacity building, waste management, community and material mobilization, education, and policy research. Mission
SUCHITWA VEDA ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ACTION CHAMBERS (SVERDAC) is an NGO born to improve the relation between the humanity and the nature. We want to help cities, municipalities and countryside from the Plastic, Aluminum and Batteries waste, because the earth is one and we can’t permit to destroy it. We value actions in favor of environment and the proper waste management. Residents will see the rewards of gathering and depositing what they currently see as waste but what will start to be perceived as a gainful resource saving. SVERDAC, we can reduce everyday waste.

How it works
➤ We organize ourselves-wastepickers, itinerant buyers and small junk dealers-in various parts of Kerala.
➤ Over thousands persons are part of this registered group. For us, organizing means that we all begin to understand our value in the city, identify our key challenges and work towards safer, greener work as a group instead of as individuals.
➤ We educate other waste recyclers about the opportunities in clean recycling and green jobs.
Objective
SVERDAC’s primary objective is to reinforce and improve the existing recycling system, providing efficient and sustainable solutions tailored for city administrations and waste recycling companies. Our goal is to streamline recycling processes, enhance waste management efficiency, and support a cleaner, greener environment—all without any profit motive. We aim to foster collaboration among municipalities, private organizations, and community stakeholders to achieve long-term waste reduction and recycling targets. By focusing on education, awareness, and innovative solutions, SVERDAC is committed to creating a more sustainable urban ecosystem that benefits society and the planet.
Some of our major objectives are as follows;
- To promote the study of issues relevant to the environment and sustainable development with special reference to India, as well as other parts of the world.
- To implement and encourage research, projects, campaigns and programmes of all kinds for the conservation of the ecosystem, our environment and for a better understanding of the environment and people.
- To implement and encourage research, projects, campaigns and programmes of all kinds in the area of urban issues, sanitation and waste, resource consumption and usage, and sustainable lifestyle and practice.
- To implement and encourage research, projects, campaigns and programmes of all kinds in the area of poverty alleviation in urban and rural areas and of employment generation and optimisation.
- To implement and encourage research, projects, campaigns and programmes of all kinds in the area of bio-diversity conservation, disaster mitigation and management.
- To implement and encourage research, projects, campaigns and programmes of all kinds in clean-up and restoration of temples and other religious place of worships, heritage sites and Eco sensitive zones.
- To implement and encourage research, projects, campaigns and programmes of all kinds in the area of marine plastics mitigation and management, water body management and coastal zone management.
- To develop and implement various communication modules to disseminate the knowledge and information at our disposal with the public at large and to carry out research, as required. To use all suitable means of communications for this , such as plays, theatre, speeches, rallies, talks, seminars, workshops, print media, digital media, games, printed matter, films, videos, documentation through slides, photographs or audio recordings, multi-media, internet and any other form of communication available at the time. To also put up, make and create them as required, using the help of professionals in the domain.
- To mobilise people in support of environmental causes and sustainable development.
- To co-operate with government, non-government and other agencies in India and outside as required in implementing the Company’s aims and in fund raising.
- To form appropriate networks of citizens and citizens bodies which will attempt to understand, solve and work towards positive changes with respect to the issues being addressed
- To publish reports, studies, handbooks, manuals, charts, maps and other publications based on the NGO’s work and interests and make these available to the public through various means.
- To set up and help set up such internet facilities and websites as required by the NGO as well as other NGOs and to facilitate the spread of information amongst Society. To help other organisations set up such websites etc. which will help to facilitate sharing of information
- To use art and art forms of various kinds to bring about any of the NGO’s objectives through workshops, projects and any other means available.
- To hold or co-host seminars, workshops, conferences, study tours, rallies and other events which foster a better understanding of issues related to the aims and objectives of the NGO.
- To bring about a better understanding of the arts and crafts and their numerous forms-contemporary or classical, and their preservation in every way possible to the public and to carry out such activities that will include public participation in such projects.
- To Promote organization of forums such as co-operative societies, mandals and association of women, youth and workers with a view to undertaking collective activities for socio-economic-environmental development.
- Organize educational and vocational training programme with special focus for deprived sections, women/girls and unemployed youth to provide new skills, refuse/sharpen/upgrade the existing skills leading to employment, self employment and income generation
- To spread awareness about Protection of Environments
- To help Disabled Children, Youth, AIDS Patients, Ageing People, Drug Addict, IIV Victims, promote organ donations
- To Promote Welfare of poor waste pickers / doorstep waste collectors & other small junk dealers and Labour Union Rights & Economic &-Social Development
- To promote & educate Equality, as well as Equity, International Integration. Brotherhood. Non-Violence. Love, Peace, Justice, Protection & Promotion of Human Rights for all
- To organize conference, summits, seminars, meetings, Discussions, Debates, Study Courses, Collection of Statistics, Exhibitions, Shows, Tour Trips etc
- To actively join hands with the Government of India and other countries for Environmental protection
- NGO will create a corpus fund out of activities on no-profit-no-loss basis to sustain its activities/ projects from the self-generated resources. NGO can also participate in joint venture projects with the Government of India or State Government Departments, Authorities approved by the Government or any other agencies approved by the Government in India and abroad, as the case may be.
- To promote conventional and non conventional renewable energy including solar aa) To promote awareness among the people the need for-protecting the environment, forest for the future generations

- gg) To do all other objects and purpose which may be conductive to and beneficial for the NGO works.
